Commonwealth Fellowship for Medical 2019 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for CommonWealth Fellowship for Medical 2019. The purpose of this program is to enhance the medical skills of the medical staff which are from low and middle-income countries. The CommonWealth is going to award the scholarships and fellowships to 800 students in the order they are able to study their postgraduate studies and professional development to the CommonWealth citizens each year.

Commonwealth Fellowship for Medical:

This program of scholarships and fellowships is one of the largest programs in the world. It was established in 1959. And from then till now they have given scholarships and fellowships to 35,000 individuals from which 27,000 were funded by the UK government through CSC.
Their main purpose for starting this program is that they can provide such an opportunity to the medical students in which they can enhance their medical skills and they have a catalytic effect on their places where they work. And this program is funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

Commonwealth Fellowship for Medical 2019 covers:

  • Transportation.
  • Research support grant. This grant will be payable to the university hospital in which you will be present.
  • Living allowance of £1,656 or £2,055 per month will be given to those which are in the university hospital in the London metropolitan area.
  • You will get a fee for your English Language Test and for the General Medical Council registration.
  • You will be paid to buy Warm Clothes.
  • You will be granted a travel allowance so that you can travel within the UK.
NOTE:
If you are a divorces, widowed or a single parent, then you will get an allowance of £466 per month for your first child and for the second and third child which are under 16 years of age you will get £114 per month. And it is necessary that your children are living with you at the same address in the UK.

The theme Fellowship:

There are six themes which will be offered.

  3. Promoting global prosperity.
  4. Strengthening global peace, security, and governance
  5. Strengthening resilience & response to the crises.
  6. Access, inclusion, and opportunity.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a Permanent citizen of those countries which eligible.
  • You must have an academic appointment in the medical schools of any one of the eligible countries.
  • Must be available in January 2020 to start the fellowship.
  • Have qualified as a doctor before October 1, 2004.
  • Must be qualified at the medical school which is recognized by the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Must meet the requirements of English language of GMC within 2 months of being notified for selection.

Eligible Countries:

Pakistan, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Uganda, Vanuatu, Zambia.

Required Documents:

ALL DOCUMENTS WILL BE SUBMITTED ONLINE
  • You must have a valid passport or national ID card in which your photograph you country citizenship and your date of birth is clearly visible.
  • All your university transcripts and the certificates in which your date of qualification of your primary degree is visible.
  • An academic reference is required from the head of your teaching hospital department.
  • All your references will be submitted by the referee online (they will receive an email where they have to submit the reference).
  • Endorsement by your Medical School Dean (Dean have to submit it online when Dean gets the email).
  • Must submit a supporting statement from a proposed supervisor in the UK university Hospital. (directly submit to CSC, Supervisor will get an email).

SELECTION PROCESS:

Once you have submitted all the documents and the online form. Then a Selection process will run through which you will be selected.
Selection Process will check
  • Academic Merit.
  • Quality of the proposal that you have submitted (proposal must have more than 200 words).
  • The potential impact of the work on the development of the home country of the applicant.
Deadline: May 13, 2019.
